With today being Valentine’s Day, and with love in the air, it is important to take time to remember a sometimes forgotten part of our population, senior citizens. On February 9th in partnership with Microsoft, 100 Valentine’s Day Kits were assembled to support the work of Meals on Wheels of Wake County which is one of United Way of the Greater Triangle’s partner organizations.

Meals on Wheels is an organization that distributes over 1,000 noontime meals every weekday to homebound older adults and persons with disabilities throughout Wake County and the surrounding area. Since 1974 over 9 million meals have been served in Wake County alone. Meals on Wheels Wake County is affiliated with Meals on Wheels America whose goal is to end senior hunger in the United States.

The kits assembled consisted of items that seniors would find useful in their everyday lives. Items ranging from healthy chips and sugar-free candy to socks and handwarmers to help them stay warm.

Each kit also included a heartfelt handwritten note from Microsoft employees. The event was a great example of the Power of Partnerships!  Because of the efforts of the awesome Microsoft team and United Way of the Greater Triangle, seniors will also feel the love on this Valentine’s Day.
