Thank you for supporting United Way's mission!

At Humacyte, we work to help patients with vascular needs, utilizing the investment in and development of new and innovative technology. However, the need to help others doesn’t end when the clock strikes 5:00. Many members of our community have needs that don’t require innovative technology but do require the investment in local nonprofits and the development of supporting programs.

We’re proud to offer a way for our team to come together and help support our vulnerable neighbors through a donation to help support the immediate needs of our community.

While the holidays are not the only time of need, nonprofits like the Durham Rescue Mission need even greater resources during this time to help our homeless neighbors experience a bit of holiday joy. Because of this, please consider making a gift of $25 (or any amount) to either United Way of the Greater Triangle or the Durham Rescue Mission. Check the form below to see how you can give to either of these amazing organizations.

One gift can make a difference in someone’s life, but collectively, we can impact entire communities.

Volunteer With Durham Nonprofits

Volunteering is a great way to help your neighbors in need and when you help transform the lives of your neighbors, you may find the experience transforms you deeply as well.

Here are just some of the ways you can help:

1. Durham Rescue Mission

The Durham Rescue Mission has been mending shattered lives since 1974, providing food, shelter, clothes, counseling and more to homeless, addicted and struggling men, women, and children in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area.

2. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle

The Food Shuttle is committed to providing a safe volunteer experience that adheres to the recommendations put forth by Feeding America as well as health and government officials. With careful planning and attention to detail, their team can safely and effectively engage individuals and groups in the work of addressing food insecurity.

Here are some ways you can help:

  • Backpack Buddies:
    • Join Inter-Faith Food Shuttle at the Child Food Hub in Durham, NC to help pack meal boxes for children and families in need of hunger relief. Volunteers will form an assembly line to place food items into medium size boxes. Other tasks may include sorting food donations, taping boxes, labeling food categories, and other warehouse related tasks

3. Urban Ministries of Durham County

Volunteering at Urban Ministries of Durham is a great way to help your neighbors experiencing poverty and/or homelessness. Here are just some of the ways you can help:

  • Community Cafe Meal Serving:
    • Group of 8 people needed, with openings for:
      • Dinner – You will need to provide the food, as well as prepare and serve for 250 people. Random dates. Mostly weeknights.
      • Holidays – Groups serving regularly typically want to take holidays off. This is a great opportunity to give back when the need is high.
      • Fifths of the month – As this occurs sporadically,  Urban Ministries often has openings for breakfast or making bag lunches.
  • Hygiene Kit Hero:
    • Collect and package items to hand out in hygiene kits to all the clients who visit the food pantry and clothing closet.
    • About 130 kits each week.
  • Holiday Helper:
    • Help create Urban Ministries’ Toy and Parent Shops with new, still-in-the-package items.
    • Volunteers will collect donations of specific new items for shelter adults at the holidays and assist with holiday preparations.
