MORRISVILLE- United Way of the Greater Triangle is pleased to announce that Irene Godínez has joined its team as Vice President of Marketing & Communications.
Godínez brings 10 years of experience in non-profit management, community mobilization and engagement, coalition-building, advocacy, media relations, and strategic communications. Godínez spent eight years advocating on immigration issues at both the state and national levels through El Pueblo, Inc., the Latin American Coalition, and Reform Immigration FOR America. Most recently, she was Planned Parenthood Health Systems’ North Carolina and Virginia Director of Public Affairs. Her prior experience also includes lobbying, and investing in youth leadership development.
In her role at United Way of the Greater Triangle, Godínez will develop and execute the strategic communications plan, including social media and public relations, public engagement and outreach activities. Her responsibilities also include the creation of opportunities for a new generation of emerging leaders to support the mission of the organization.
“With her knowledge of the Triangle and her depth of experience in non-profit communications, Irene’s skill set will help build awareness of United Way’s work to create a network of partners coming together to address some of our area’s most pressing issues,” noted Melanie Davis-Jones, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications.
“It is incredibly humbling and gratifying to have an opportunity to serve our community at an organization that inspires engagement and collaboration for the common good,” said Godínez. “I am optimistic that together, with the support of the many caring individuals in this region, we can work more intentionally to create lasting change to ensure pathways to brighter futures for all of our families living here.”
Godínez, a Durham native, earned a Master of International Studies and B.A. in Political Science at North Carolina State University and is a resident of Raleigh. She is an active volunteer in the Triangle community and has served on various boards and steering committees, including: the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina, Student Action with Farmworkers, WTVD, ABC 11 Minority Advisory Committee, and Uniting NC.
