MORRISVILLE, NC (May 12, 2014) – The board of directors of United Way of the Greater Triangle elected Maureen O’Connor as its newest member. O’Connor is the executive vice president and chief strategy and innovation officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. She leads the development and implementation of the company’s enterprise strategy, and is responsible for the healthcare and clinical division, network relationships and health system innovation, data analytics and insights, and new business development.
“Maureen is an important addition to the board,” said JR Shearin, board chair. “Her experience in healthcare, strategy and innovation will be great assets as we continue to develop United Way’s focus on community–wide solutions to our area’s most pressing needs.”
In addition to this appointment, O’Connor chairs the Board of Trustees of Meredith College. She also serves on the boards of Elon University Law School, Urgent Cares of America Holdings and the Washington-based Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare. She was named by Triangle Business Journal as one of 12 “People to Watch in 2014.”

O’Connor earned a law degree from Suffolk University Law School and a bachelor’s degree in English literature from College of the Holy Cross. She is married and has three adult children.
