Research Triangle Park—(February 24, 2014) United Way of the Greater Triangle congratulates eight local companies for winning state-wide Spirit of North Carolina Awards or local President’s and Chairman’s Awards for Excellence. These awards provide recognition for companies and organizations that have demonstrated outstanding commitment and support to their communities through local United Way involvement. Three of the companies won both state-wide and local awards.
“Community change is a true partnership and requires the support of companies such as these and many others,” said Mack Koonce, CEO and president of United Way of the Greater Triangle. “They are leading by example and showing us all that it is possible to invest in positive change and make a difference in our communities. We are proud to be their partner in this effort.”
Organizations and companies were judged on a variety of criteria including leadership giving, volunteerism, employee participation and giving levels, year-round education, corporate support, incentive programs, and campaign rallies.

The 2013 Spirit Awards were presented at the United Way of North Carolina’s annual meeting on Friday, February 21, 2014. The Chairman’s and President’s Awards will be presented on March 11, 2014.
