Teaming for Technology

La Familia Technology Awareness

October 25th 2pm - 5pm

On Saturday, October 25 Triangle United Way's Teaming for Technology program is hosting a cultural event for 15 Hispanic families and volunteers to come together and celebrate La Familia Technology Awareness.

Triangle United Way is located at 1100 Perimeter Park Dr. in Morrisville, 27560 (Click for map)

This cultural event will take place in a large conference room. Bi-cultural volunteers are going to be helping out at 3 learning stations to teach basic computer skills. The stations will have the following activities:

  • The basics of computer hardware. See the inside of a computer and gain an understanding of how it works. Take a tour of the Teaming for Technology computer refurbishing workspace.
  • How to set-up an email account and practice sending emails to your family and friends.
  • The basics of Microsoft Office programs Word and Excel. Also, gain an understanding of what a computer virus is and how to keep your computer protected.

Participants will also learn best practices about how to keep children safe on the Internet.

Participants and volunteers are invited to bring one dish of their favorite food so we can have a potluck afternoon while volunteers teach participants a few basics about using a computer. A kitchen is adjacent to the main event room for the food.

The kitchen will also serve as a day care room for young children. The children will be supervised by an adult. We will have a TV and videos for the children as well as exciting games.

When the event concludes, participants will drive around to the back door where they will each pickup their free refurbished computer to keep. Click here for the specs.

We are no longer accepting applications for participants as all the registration slots are full. Thanks to everyone who sponsored a family!
