Teaming for Technology
Donation Procedure
- Check to see if T4T accepts the items you have to donate. If we don't accept the items, check out these other local recycling centers and refurbishers.
- Erase your Hard Drive! Here is a website that makes this very easy: http://dban.sourceforge.net/
We perform a Department of Defense compliant data erasure of working hard disk drives before installing an operating system. However, the equipment donor is solely responsible for the removal of data from their computers prior to donation, and as a term of donation will not hold Teaming for Technology liable for any misuse of the data subsequent to donation.
- Follow Donation Guidelines (see below) .
- Complete the online receipt form.
- Deliver equipment to:
Triangle United Way, 1100 Perimeter Park Drive, Suite 112 Morrisville, NC, any time between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday (see directions).
For large donations, call (919) 463-5018 before delivery.
Equipment Donation Guidelines
To help T4T run efficiently and keep overhead costs low, please adhere to the following donation guidelines. While our guidelines are strict, they help ensure we are truly benefitting our community recipients with QUALITY equipment and not just quantity.- CLEAN ALL ITEMS: Equipment should be clean upon donation. Please take a few minutes to clean off surface dirt and stains. If your keyboard or the inside of your computer is dusty, please spray it with compressed air. Please remove grime build-up from inside your mouse and surface dirt from buttons and scroll wheels. (We spend around $200 per year on cleaning supplies and compressed air; your compliance saves us time and money.)
- DATA SECURITY PROCEDURES: We perform a Department of Defense compliant 3-pass wipe of working hard disk drives before installing an operating system. Please note, however, that Teaming for Technology cannot guarantee the removal or disposition of any data that remains on the Hard Drives or other storage devices of donated computers and is thus not liable for those data or their subsequent use or handling.
- SUGGESTED DONATION: While no financial donation is required with your donation of equipment, please consider a donation of $5.00 per computer system. From the time we receive a computer to the time it leaves our hands to go to a nonprofit, school or family, we spend approximately $65 on it in time, upgrades, repairs, software, delivery costs, and storage rental.
- NO PACKAGING: It takes a long time for us to break down boxes and throw out styrofoam, not to mention the space it takes up. Please take all items out of their boxes and please leave only the equipment. Thank you!
- NO DAMAGED ITEMS: we DO NOT accept broken or damaged equipment of any kind. We cannot accept monitors with screen burns, blurry pictures or broken guns (one or more colors that don't project). We also cannot accept keyboards with missing keys (We spend several hundred dollars each year on recycling and disposal fees of damaged equipment.)
- ABSOLUTELY NO PRINTERS UNLESS NEW IN BOX
- ADHERE TO OPERATING HOURS: Do NOT drop items off outside of our building.
- T4T IS NOT A LANDFILL: Teaming for Technology is a refurbisher of equipment, not a landfill. When considering your donation, please keep in mind that it will ultimately go to a nonprofit agency, school or family, and ask yourself "Would I want to receive this equipment if I were in their shoes?" If the answer is "no,"recycle your equipment rather than donating it.
- DON'T FORGET THE POWER CORD: Power cords are not required with your donation, but they are a huge help! Please remember to bring power cords and all appropriate cords and cables with your donation.
- WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SELL EQUIPMENT WE CAN NOT PLACE: Occasionally we receive items that the agencies we work with have no use for. Usually it is because the items are too specialized. We will make a reasonable effort to place all items we receive with a family, nonprofit or school, but in the event that we can not place them, we reserve the right to sell them at our semi-annual fundraising yard sale, from which 100% of the proceeds go to support T4T.
If your donation does not comply with these guidelines, or does not meet minimum hardware requirements, you may leave your equipment with the Triangle United Way.
Because we are a charity, we urge you to do the right thing and make a $5 for each computer, printer, or monitor that does not meet minimum hardware requirements.
