Ready to Work Program a Tremendous Success!

With nearly a 10% unemployment rate in North Carolina, United Way of the Greater Triangle sprung into action to find a unique way to help jobseekers in Durham, Orange and Wake counties.  The Ready to Work program was an 8 week series, begun in April, providing the unemployed with in-depth assistance to help them gain a competitive edge as they search for employment.

The series included professionally led topics that covered:

  • Financial management during unemployment
  • Mastering the behavioral based interview
  • Getting noticed, known and connected
  • Understanding North Carolina’s economic picture and its impact on industries
  • Communicating and competing in the multi-generational workplace
  • Jump starting your career by differentiating yourself from other jobseekers
  • Assessing and leveraging your behavior and leadership style
  • And a panel of H.R. professionals to answer all questions and give insight and insider tips

Created and managed by local business executive Gayle Manley, the Ready to Work Program is part of United Way of the Greater Triange's“Helpful Resources for Uncertain Times” which is located here. Included is 2-1-1 which is United Way’s free resource putting people in touch with information about critical health and human services available in the community.  People can access these resources by simply dialing 211 on their telephone or logging on to http://www.unitedwaytriangle.org/211/ .
