Triangle United Way Announces $2.7 Million Raised
More support needed to reach $11 million goal
Morrisville, NC – Tom Adams, Chairman of the 2006 Triangle United Way fundraising drive and Division President, Time Warner Cable – Raleigh, today announced that a total of $4 million has been raised by area companies and employee groups, with approximately $2,760,120 targeted to the Community Care Fund and local programs.
“Early fundraising results have been positive. We really feel confident of reaching the $11 million Community Care Fund goal, but timing is the biggest challenge. Many companies are running their employee campaigns later this year. Now is the time for generous citizens to give and show their support of United Way’s campaign to help improve lives in the region,” said Adams.
Approximately 50,000 employees participate in the Triangle United Way fundraising drive. The following are highlights of employee fund raising drives conducted since the campaign began on September 7:
- Duke University employees have contributed $547,587 for the Triangle United Way Community Care Fund and the fundraising drive is still in progress.
- SunTrust Banks, Inc. employees have contributed a total of $224,264 to the United Way Community Care Fund to support people in need through 84 member agencies, and a total of $260,319.
- WTVD ABC 11 exceeded its 2006 goal by 40 percent, contributing $28,000.
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina employees have contributed $502,000 to the Triangle United Way Community Care Fund, a 12 percent increase.
- WakeMed Health & Hospitals is reporting over $500,000 for the 2006 Triangle United Way campaign.
- John Deere is reporting a total contribution of $86,667; a 41 percent increase over last year.
- Progress Energy contributed a total of $73,896 for the Community Care Fund for local needs.
- Town of Hillsborough has exceeded their goal this year, reporting a total of $8,300.
- Deloitte & Touche employees have also exceeded their goal by 11 percent, and contributed a total of $134,000.
The fundraising drive ends on Nov. 12 with the 23rd Old Reliable Run in downtown Raleigh. Proceeds from the 10K and 5K run and walk benefit the Triangle United Way Community Care Fund campaign to improve lives in partnership with 177 local human service programs in Durham, Orange and Wake counties.
