Triangle United Way’s 2005 Community Care Campaign Falling Short of Goal

Immediate Public Support Needed

Raleigh—Triangle United Way (TUW) is projecting that $10.5 million will be raised for the 2005 Community Care Campaign, a $500,000 short fall from the $11 million goal. With a week left and some companies still running campaigns, TUW hopes that the public will provide the much-needed financial support to avoid cuts to agency services.

“We are not willing to give up,” said Craig Chancellor, President and CEO of TUW. Raising that amount in a week’s time is not impossible and we are asking for the community to step up and give generously. We have 90 percent of campaigns reporting, but there is additional room for increased giving. We would like to invite any individuals or companies who have not donated to do so. Put Triangle United Way on your Holiday Gift List.”

“The impact of the shortfall undoubtedly will trickle down to agencies,” said Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities Executive Director Mary Freeman. “We are glad to host today’s event and to do everything we can to assist in the success of the campaign. The success of the Community Care Campaign is our success because those donations allow us to continue providing our services to families and children with special needs. We will continue to do our part – we need the community at large to do its part.“

Despite many agencies being small not for profit organizations, they have run campaigns and raised more than $103,000 in pledges to the Community Care Campaign. Despite the possible shortfall, several companies have run outstanding United Way employee campaigns. Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina raised $50K over their goal for a total of $572K in the Triangle through employee giving and $639K statewide.  WakeMed Health and Hospitals employees increased giving by 31 percent over the $382K in 2005 to more than $500K.

Triangle United Way is asking everyone to make a contribution by calling (919) 463-5050 or online at www.unitedwaytriangle.org – go to "I want to pledge now" on the left side of the page.
