PUBLIC FORUM TO DISCUSS WAYS TO IMPROVE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH OF DURHAM HOMELESS

DURHAM, NC – As a part of the 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness in Durham, the city is bringing together the business sector, faith community, employment and training programs and private citizens for a forum on Oct. 20, to address the inadequate employment available for the homeless. The Oct. 20 forum will be held at the Triangle Presbyterian Church, 5001 Tudor Place, in Durham from 7 to 9 p.m.

This forum will include a presentation about services being developed and offered in Durham to support the needs of individuals coping with mental illness and addiction who also are homeless or at risk to become homeless. The session also will address the need to develop greater collaboration and coordination among Durham's service delivery programs in order to have an impact upon the homeless.

Beth Melcher currently serves as Clinical Director of The Durham Center Local Management Entity (LME), which manages mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse services in Durham County. In this position, she coordinates the development and implementation of clinical planning and policy across LME functions and departments and assures that the agency promotes the development of a broad spectrum of community services that represent current clinical best practices.

Please join us at the forum to make your voice heard on how to deal with homelessness in our community.
