Teen pregnancy is the single largest factor that contributes to female and child poverty. APPCNC provides a variety of services in Durham, Orange and Wake counties including:

-APPCNC encourages “Parents to talk to their kids about sex – everybody else is!” APPCNC has resources for parents to start this important and ongoing conversation.

-APPCNC also provides training, guidance and resources for professionals, healthcare providers and volunteers who work with youth to ensure that they are implementing effective programs and providing accurate information. A teen becomes pregnant every 28 minutes in North Carolina so there is no time to waste on programs that don't work.

-APPCNC also advocates for state and local policies that facilitate teen pregnancy prevention initiatives.

The Alcohol/Drug Council of North Carolina is a statewide agency that serves to educate the general public and elected officials about the treatable, preventable and chronic nature of addiction disease. ADCNC advocates on behalf of alcoholics and drug addicts, their families and the public with elected officials and policymakers. The Council also provides information and referral services through a toll-free number, 1-800-688-4232, for people seeking help for alcohol and/or drug addiction for them or someone else.

The Alliance provides services in three counties - Wake, Durham and Orange. The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle provides perishable food to those in need. The Food Rescue program collects un-sellable perishable product from the NC State Farmers Market, grocery stores, catering companies, corporate cafeterias, restaurants, hospitals and other corporate food donors. The Food Distribution Program then safely delivers that recovered food quickly to nonprofit organizations providing food to the needy. Food Shuttle volunteers also distribute grocery bags of food directly to low income senior citizens and single parent families in subsidized housing. The Job Training Program provides culinary job training to people facing severe life adversities such as homelessness and substance abuse recovery issues. The Food Preparation Program then stabilizes food resources for agencies and individuals by providing cooked meals for underserved populations and volunteer based agencies.

This certified developmental day program provides center-based developmental day care and preschool/kindergarten for young children ages 18 months to 7 years who have or are at risk for developmental disabilities and children who are developing normally. Community services are provided to children birth to 3 years who have or are at risk for a developmental disability. New in 2002 is a Child Mental Health Initiative for young children ages birth to 5 years with serious social, emotional, behavioral and/or mental health issues and their families that includes individualized support and therapy services to the child and counseling supports to the family. All families served in our program are provided appropriate supports, educational and social opportunities.

The mission of Wake Teen Medical Services is to provide affordable and accessible medical and mental health services to teens and young adults, ages 10 - 23. Many of the youth we serve are uninsured, lack financial resources, and have a difficult time accessing basic, needed medical care. Wake Teen provides services to this population at greatly reduced fees, thereby ensuring that these youth have access to critically needed medical care.

We provide the following services to teens and young adults: preventive health screenings; care for acute illnesses such as sore throats, colds, viruses, etc; care for chronic diseases such as hypertension, asthma, and diabetes; medical assessment and evaluation of Attention Deficit Disorder; education (group and individual) pertaining to adolescent health issues; individual and family counseling for emotional problems; and psychiatric evaluation and medication management.
