Teen pregnancy is the single largest factor that contributes to female and child poverty. APPCNC provides a variety of services in Durham, Orange and Wake counties including:
-APPCNC encourages “Parents to talk to their kids about sex – everybody else is!” APPCNC has resources for parents to start this important and ongoing conversation.
-APPCNC also provides training, guidance and resources for professionals, healthcare providers and volunteers who work with youth to ensure that they are implementing effective programs and providing accurate information. A teen becomes pregnant every 28 minutes in North Carolina so there is no time to waste on programs that don't work.
-APPCNC also advocates for state and local policies that facilitate teen pregnancy prevention initiatives.

The Alcohol/Drug Council of North Carolina is a statewide agency that serves to educate the general public and elected officials about the treatable, preventable and chronic nature of addiction disease. ADCNC advocates on behalf of alcoholics and drug addicts, their families and the public with elected officials and policymakers. The Council also provides information and referral services through a toll-free number, 1-800-688-4232, for people seeking help for alcohol and/or drug addiction for them or someone else.

The Alliance provides services in three counties - Wake, Durham and Orange. Child and Parent Support Services (CAPSS), established in 1976, has always focused on families in which there are struggles with parenting, child behavior, adjustment to crises, or potential for child abuse/neglect. The services offered by CAPSS are designed to be primarily preventive by providing the support and psycho-education for families to intervene early to address factors associated with child maltreatment. Families in the Durham community have learned that CAPSS provides a safe environment when they are isolated, discouraged, juggling multiple roles and overwhelmed with the task of caring for their children. CAPPS parent education and support services include:
Healthy Families Durham - provides parent education and support through weekly home visits to at-risk parents (primarily first-time parents) and includes outreach to the Hispanic community.
** Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) - a dyadic intervention for parents and their children who are experiencing behavior difficulties, using a behavioral, coaching approach.
**Parent education/professional workships/seminars - offered for parents and professionals on parenting issues, attachment, effect of violence on children, and interventions to improve parent/child relationships.

For two decades, the DLC, working with community partners and volunteers, has improved the lives of many of Durham's hardest to reach residents. The DLC literacy programs target school dropouts, adults with low literacy skills, immigrants and families. The DLC recruits and trains adult volunteers to tutor basic reading and writing skills to adults needing to improve their skills. Services include community education workships, workplace literacy training programs, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and GED preparation.

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle provides perishable food to those in need. The Food Rescue program collects un-sellable perishable product from grocery stores, catering companies, corporate cafeterias, restaurants, hospitals and other corporate food donors. The Food Distribution Program then safely delivers that recovered food quickly to nonprofit organizations providing food to the needy and Food Shuttle volunteers directly distribute grocery bags of food to low income seniors citizens and single parent families in subsidized housing. The Job Training Program provides culinary job training to people facing severe life adversities such as homelessness and substance abuse recovery issues. This Food Preparation Program then stabilizes food resources for agencies and individuals by providing cooked meals for underserved populations and volunteer based agencies.
