Tocqueville Society

The Tocqueville Society is named for French historian and author Alexis de Tocqueville who visited the United States in the 1800’s and wrote the book Democracy in America.  Three elements of democracy which Tocqueville so admired in American society were liberty, equality and the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor.  Nearly two centuries later, visionary leaders in our community are using United Way of the Greater Triangle to do the same thing…neighbors helping neighbors to overcome obstacles and achieve permanent solutions to their problems.

Members are a special group of influential individuals who partner with United Way of the Greater Triangle to make our community strong, vibrant and healthy.  In 2008, Tocqueville Society members contributed over $1.4 million to help fund local health and human service programs across the Triangle.   Their unparalleled commitment reflects their extraordinary concern, foresight and dedication to inspire a better way of life for everyone.

United Way of the Greater Triangle is proud to recognize these visionary philanthropists who annually contribute $10,000 or more to United Way of the Greater Triangle.  To see a list of Society members, check out local Leadership Giving recognition book.  Tocqueville Society members are also recognized in the Leadership Giving book issued annually by United Way of America.
