2007 Emerging Leaders Program

The 2007 Emerging Leaders Program brought together 17 individuals from various backgrounds together to support the Triangle United Way Community Care Campaign. The group helped orchestrate more than 700 employee campaigns across Durham, Orange and Wake counties. The newly revamped program offers young and seasoned leaders, the unique experience of meeting with local CEOs and companies to raise millions for the community.

"The Emerging Leader Program is an outstanding and rewarding opportunity for mid-level managers and rising stars of companies to engage with business leaders throughout the community for a very worthy cause, said Bill Mecklenburg, executive vice president and chief operating officer of The Redwoods Group and Emerging Leader chairperson on the 2007 Campaign Cabinet.

"The program entrusts 15-20 'campaign associates' to raise over $20 million for the Triangle United Way during an intense three month process.  The program includes a one week professional development course that employers would typically pay $1,000s for their employee to attend.  They interact with the most influential executives in the Triangle in planning campaigns, and they develop incredible platform skills as they present at 30-50  campaign  events. "

"The level of autonomy, responsibility and authority given to these campaign associates builds character and confidence that they will carry with them  throughout their careers.  Most importantly, they are exposed first hand to the afflictions and needs of people throughout our community and the people who have dedicated their lives to serve those who are less fortunate.  This is a three month program that powerfully and positively changes people for life."
