Supported through a $3,500 grant from the Triangle United Way, Project Homeless Connect (PHC) will be held on October 25, 2007. PHC is a one-day, one-stop, on-site center designed to link homeless people with a broad range of needed services. These include housing, employment and health care. Unlike an information fair, Project Homeless Connect directly engages homeless people with services. The event will include community volunteers to be directly involved in helping individuals and families make significant steps towards ending their homelessness.

CEHD in conjunction with a county/ city wide a planning committee will organize the event that will include service and housing providers, interested citizens, volunteers and the 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness in Durham Results Teams. It will also coordinate efforts with representatives from the Wake and Orange County planning committees which will sponsor similar events on the same day.

The goal of Project Homeless Connect is to provide easy access to services that support the transition of the county's homeless off the streets and into housing. Organizers envision that they will provide individual assistance to participants in a variety of areas such as medical care, mental health, substance abuse, housing, dental care, benefits (such as veterans assistance and social security), legal services, help with obtaining official identification cards, food, clothing, hair cuts, showers, wheelchair repair and more.
