Meet Luz

Luz was in an abusive relationship for many years until she got the strength to leave.  In search of a better life, she took her two young children and set out for a new life.  Luz needed to be able to survive financially so that she would not have to return to her abusive life.  She needed a job, but in order to do that, she needed to find affordable child care for her sons.

Child Care Services Association, a Triangle United Way member agency, was able to get Luz the help she needed. She qualified for a scholarship that paid for child care for 30 days to allow her time to find a job.  If Luz had not found a job in those 30 days, the scholarship would be extended automatically.

“For me, this support helped me to be independent, support my family, and begin a new and better life.”     --Luz

Triangle United Way is committed to increasing quality child care for young children.  In 2005, 427 low-income families in Durham, Orange and Wake counties received scholarships to enroll their children in quality childcare. Your gift to the Community Care Fund ensures there is a safety net of services to improve lives.
