The Young Leaders Society is Triangle United Way’s newest leadership affinity group. Traditionally, we have recognized contributions $1,200 or more as leadership gifts, however we realized that for younger employees this can be too much for them to consider as they are building their careers and families. Now, individuals under 40 who contribute $800 or more can join the Young Leaders Society.
SunTrust believes strongly in fostering leadership among its employees, particularly through community involvement and philanthropy. They were not yet even aware of the Young Leaders Society when they ran their
leadership campaign in 2007. Astonishingly, at least 39 young employees gave nearly $47,000 to Triangle United Way – an average gift of about $1,200 – with most far exceeding the minimum gift of $800. These Young Leaders were a key to the success of SunTrust’s campaign, and were responsible for 19% of the total $240,000 from all
employees.
Many of these Young Leaders are actively involved with Triangle United Way in many capacities – as campaign coordinators, community volunteers, emerging leaders, and helping to recruit new companies to engage with us. They represent the future leaders of the Triangle, and will help to ensure the continued success of SunTrust Bank in supporting our community.
