Campaign Leader of the Year-Orange County

Stephanie Knott, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools
While Triangle United Way’s mission of improving lives is one that many local citizens support, mobilizing the caring
power of an organization and a community is no easy task. It requires a leader – someone with passion, vision,
and heart. It also requires an organizer – someone to plan, execute, and follow up. These key skills rarely co-exist
in equal measure within one individual. Stephanie Knott, Assistant Superintendent for Community Relations for
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, is an exception to the rule. With the support of Superintendent Dr. Neil Pedersen,
she not only organized and managed campaigns at seventeen school sites, but she inspired each and every school
to become involved in their campaign.
Teachers and public school system employees are, by their very nature, givers. They give of their time and talent
on a daily basis by educating and molding our community’s children. In 2007, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School
employees also gave of their monetary resources to raise an amazing $48,195 for our agencies! Stephanie Knott
was instrumental to the school system’s success and, ultimately, to the success of our entire campaign.
Not only has Stephanie Knott led the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools campaign for three years, but last year she also served as Triangle United Way’s Vice Chair of Education in Orange County. Her commitment to her colleagues and her community is beyond compare. She is not only a model Campaign Leader, but a model Triangle citizen.
