Best Model Diversity Campaign

Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club

The Triangle has become a true melting pot and, consequently, so has its employee population. We are all aware of our increasingly diverse community, but few businesses have gone to the lengths of the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club to address diversity in their workplace campaign.

The campaign committee, spearheaded by Brigid King and Deana Merrell, requested two model campaign presentations conducted entirely in Spanish. In addition, the Inn offered Spanish language contribution forms. As a result, the Inn’s Hispanic employees learned about the challenges the Triangle faces and the solutions offered by United Way agencies. And they responded in a big way – by contributing $4,502.50, nearly 30% of the entire employee gift! In addition, these employees also learned about resources available to them and their families.

We could all take a page from Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club’s book by addressing diversity in the workplace and mobilizing the caring power of our entire community.

Best Practices:

• Multiple Presentations
• Spanish Language Presentations and Contribution Forms
• Emphasis on Employee Education
• Strong Campaign Committee
