2008 Happy Ending Celebration

& Annual Awards Event

TRIANGLE UNITED WAY CLOSES THE BOOK WITH A HAPPY ENDING CELEBRATION TO HONOR PHILANTHROPY

Triangle United Way (TUW) honored companies who helped support the annual campaign at their Happy Ending Celebration and Annual Awards Event.  Guests were surrounded with wooden fairytale books that reminded them of happy endings created through their support of TUW.  The crowd of more than 300 was entertained by the Steve Hobbs Trio. Emmy Award Winning Storyteller Willa Brigham, who helped kickoff the 2007 Community Care Campaign, returned to help celebrate the happy ending. 

Deloitte Managing Partner and 2007 Campaign Chairman J.R. Shearin and Triangle United Way President and CEO Craig Chancellor served as c0-masters of ceremonies. Shearin’s successor will be Rex Healthcare  President David Strong. Strong unveiled the new United Way Live United campaign at the close of the event.

Thirty-nine awards were presented to honor volunteerism and philanthropy by companies and individuals in helping raise $19 million for the Triangle United Way including $11.4 million for the Community Care Fund. Top winners of the evening received Chairman’s Awards of Excellence including:

  • Best Overall Performance--Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina
  • Employee Education and Volunteerism--Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex
  • Employee Campaign Performance--The News & Observer
  • Corporate Support and Involvement--The Redwoods Group

The Chairman's Award Series is the highest recognition TUW bestows upon select companies across Durham, Orange and Wake counties for extraordinary success in supporting community health and human service needs by conducting workplace fundraising and volunteer service activities.
