The Redwoods Group


Simply stated, The Redwoods Group is second to none! Their motto: “Serve Others.” Their platform: “serve as a powerful force for positive social change by supporting communities with monetary contributions and community service.” Their results: a 70% participation rate and an increase of over 160% in total dollars raised during the 2007
campaign.


Their success though is largely the result of a dynamic leader who fosters altruism throughout the company. President and CEO, Kevin Trapani, a Tocqueville Society member, was actively involved in the campaign. Kevin personally endorsed letters to employees urging their participation and support, and addressed them with a powerful and passionate speech during the kickoff event. He also solicited support from other top executives like COO, Bill Mecklenberg, who chaired the Triangle United Way’s Emerging Leaders Program.

Continuing to model outstanding corporate commitment, Kevin introduced two strategies that ultimately took their campaign efforts to another dimension. First, a 200% corporate gift match where the company granted a two for one match of each employees’ donation. Secondly, a leadership step-up program that allowed more employees to
reach internal leadership giving levels. These efforts led to a dramatic increase in employee participation levels and spurred a 79% increase in total leadership donors.

Outside of their workplace giving campaign, The Redwoods Group provided sponsorship for the annual Triangle United Way’s MLK Day of Service and COO Bill Mecklenberg was instrumental in hosting the Emerging Leaders Program Reunion.
