I’m Going to Make You Cry – Part 3

This is Part 3 in the series in which I’m sharing the CEO/community leader statements about why these  individuals are sleeping out for our United Way CEO Sleepout on September 6. There’s more than just sleeping on the hard ground that night – there’s a lot of heart behind these people’s participation.

Read on:

John Anthony, TrustAtlantic Bank – Chief Administrative Officer, “I am incredibly excited about this event and the opportunity to bring awareness on issues surrounding basic human service needs in our community. The United Way and partner agencies are professionally equipped to meet these basic needs – but we need your help and support!”

Rick McNeel, LORD Corporation – President & CEO, “The theme for this years campaign is poverty and the sleepout is a great opportunity to publicize the things United Way is doing in the Triangle to help. I am happy to participate.”

Justin Benson, Spreedly – CEO, “Firstly, drawing attention to the plight of the homeless is the most obvious. In addition, while human beings seem born with varying degrees of empathy there is nothing like a direct experience, even in such a contained manner, to help us truly understand what it might just feel like. ”

David Hadden, TheraSim – CEO, “TheraSim has been supporting medical treatment in impoverished countries such as Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya and South Africa for seven years. I have seen homelessness, poverty and unnecessary death on a frightening scale through my work in these countries. I hope that participating in this event will help raise awareness of the same problem in my local community. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.”

Steve Hammel, WRAL-TV – Vice President and General Manager, “I want to support United Way and learn more about poverty in the Triangle.”

JR Shearin, Deloitte – Office Managing Partner, “I’m sleeping out to kick off this year’s United Way Campaign and support their efforts with member agencies to eliminate homelessness.”

Sam Field, CAE USA – Vice President, Ground Training Systems, “This event is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of poverty in our community and to kick off our annual United Way campaign.”
