African American Leadership Initiative

Improving lives in our community matters.
The African-American Leadership Initiative (AALI) honors individuals and community leaders whose annual gifts to United Way are $1,200 or more. AALI members represent the rich African American heritage of philanthropy in the Triangle: retirees, entrepreneurs, professionals, middle managers, CEOs and young leaders from Durham, Orange and Wake counties and various organizations.
Currently there are nearly 100 members. AALI is led by a team of volunteers who take on the challenge of raising awareness, and increasing donor investments in the Community Care Fund. It provides opportunities for members to become more involved in community issues. From members of the board of directors to volunteers leading Community Care teams, African-Americans are involved in decision making roles.
